This compilation is the final report that brings
together tha papers presented in the Seminar on Migrant Women and
Children, held in San Salvador, on February 24th and 25th from the
year 2000. The Seminar was developed within the framework of migration
and development under the Plan of Action of the Regional Conference
on Migration or Puebla Process.
The main objective was to foster an interchange
among the representatives of civil society, academic experts, and
specialised international organisations so that they could share
their best practices, experiences, and current research with government
officials, and thus achieve a set to draft recommendations for concrete
actions.
The regional consulting process carried out by the
non-governmental organizations under the co-ordination of the Canadian
Council for Refugees further enriched the event. This is reflected
in the quality and appropiateness of their recommendations. The
Seminar enjoyed a high degree of co-operation and collaboration
among the agencies participating in the Puebla Process, and represented
a multilateral organisational effort on the part of the Governments
of Canada and El Salvador, together with the International Organization
for Migrations (IOM).
